Hello From Elder Fitt

Hi hi hi,
This week has been alright, I hope everyone else's was better. It was transfers week so it was really hectic, especially in Rapid City, since its one of the main hubs for transfers. But finally on tuesday evening I got my new companion, Elder Davis. He's from Oregon, and a pretty cool guy, just needs to speak up a little bit. Its been interesting since I'm pretty quiet to take the lead role a lot, but its helping me grow, which is great.
But ya, the week has been really slow. We did a lot of tracting and were able to get one new investigator named Alex, a 20 yr old or so native man who is kinda floating through life but wants religion in it. So we were able to deliver a pretty good lesson, he could have some prospects.
This is probably gonna be a pretty short email. We did get to attend a baptism for Chance Martin, an investigator of our Zone Leaders. It was a really good event, but kinda sad a little bit because the man baptizing him took about 7 tries to do it right...I was so glad I was able to do it right the first time, I was blessed. But either way, it was still good, and it has to be done right, since the Lord's house is a house of order.
Other than that we've been working hard, but not many people have been home. I sent a ton of pictures home so hopefully they will be posted somewhere soon.
Other than that things are going well, a storm hit us last night and is gonna be around for a while, yay more snow! But its good I guess, I'll probably miss the cold once summer hits.
Well I hope you all are doing well. Remember, when the going gets tough, don't forget to turn to the Lord. Without Him we are nothing. The other day we had an interesting discussion about obedience and how it is the governing principle of the universe basically. Probably got a little too deep for our own good, but it helped really put into perspective the idea that man is less than the dust of the earth because the dust obeys its creator. It has perfect faith that God will never change and thus it does exactly what it is supposed to. As we draw closer to the Savior and begin to align our will with His, we will see the blessings that obedience grants us in our lives and will be able to put all our trust in the Lord and not fear.
Well, have a great week everyone, and be an "example of the believers" everywhere you go!
Love,
Elder Fitt

6 Months!!!

Hi Everyone!
GOSH, I hate these terrible library computers. I was almost done writing this letter than I get a '10 minutes left' warning pop-up and I close it and it closed my email with it...sooo lame.
Anyway, I'm just gonna have to make everything a lot shorter, I'm sorry.
The baptism was amazing. James is a great guy and had a lot of family and members there which made the event really spiritual. I was so blessed to be apart of this baptism. With our current teaching pool and the 4 new investigator's we got last week, I hope we can get at least 2 more baptismal commitments this week if not next.
The work is going great though. I was able to go up and serve in Spearfish again for 2 days. A storm blew in and covered the area in 4-8 inches of snow. We went to Deadwood and a member we visited there lives in the tops of the mountains there, so I got some amazing pictures of the area.
I know everyone wants to see some pictures, I would've sent some these past 6 weeks but the computers we use don't let us, so I'm sending them home to my family this week and hopefully they can upload some to somewhere...
Anyway, I'm grateful to be a missionary and be serving the Lord. Sorry to cut this short, but I love you all and hope everyone's week goes well!
Love,

Weekly Update from Elder Fitt

Hi Everyone,
I had a pretty good week here. We worked a lot of finalizing things for our booth in the mall, which went pretty well. I'll try to send some pictures out next week of it(because they're on another Elder's camera). It was good for the church though; the mall was packed and a lot of people saw the booth. On one side we have the dvd Special Witnesses of Christ which is an hour long presentation of the testimonies of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve of various subjects regarding our faith(if you haven't seen it I'd recommend watching it for FHE). Lots of handouts, Book of Mormons, flyers, banners, slideshow of families in the Stake, the works, it was pretty awesome.
James Tracke, is getting baptized this coming Sunday, and he asked me to perform the baptism! I'm way excited. Though I wasn't here for his whole learning experience, its still awesome. I'll finally get to break in my baptismal clothes that have been collecting dust on my shelf for the past 6 months. Other than that we've been trying to contact less-actives, and find new investigator's, both of which are slow, but we have some promising contacts and current investigator's we're working with.
I'm not sure what else to report this week, I left my journal at home because I thought we'd be coming to the library later, so I don't remember all the cool things that happened this week. But its been good for the most part.
Spiritual thought for the week. I've been reading in Jesus the Christ lately, in the later chapters around the last week of Christ. Talmage discusses the parable of the 10 virgins, as well as the talents. Both of which touch on preparation as well as using the talents the Lord gives you and the magnification thereof. As I've been out here, in myself and others, I've seen talents that have been used and others that have been buried and have begun to grasp the reality of it. If we aren't grateful for what we have and use it to the best of our ability, the Lord will take it away from us, not because he's mean, but because He wants to humble us. As we submit to the will of the Lord and do all we can with all that we have, He will do the rest. Trust in the Lord.
I hope you all have a great week. The Church is true!

Hello from South Dakota!

Hello Everyone,
I hope you all had a great week. Mine was pretty good. This week we had Zone Conference, its was way awesome. It was a 2-day thing, so the last half of tuesday and the morning of Wednesday we had it. I always love Zone Conference, we got taught a lot of great things and it helps boost the morale of the mission. Neat story, beforehand, the District got together for lunch at a place called Buffalo Wings and Rings. There was about 11 of us there, we all order a good amount of wings and such, and right after we finish ordering the waitress comes back and lets us know the man in the booth "over there" and is picking up our bill. Turns out is was a member in the 1st ward here in Rapid. Pretty crazy seeing how the bill was easily over $100. It was a great blessing and we were thankful for his kindness.
After Zone Conference I went on an exchange with Elder Potter, whose actually from Highland, UT. But I didn't know him. He's serving in Spearfish, SD which also covers Sturgis(where the annual biker road rallys are), Deadwood(a pretty sweet old western town) and Belle Fourche. He's an interesting guy. But the best part of the exchange, and Andrew is gonna love this, was we visited 3 Paraguayans! They're here in the States on a program from their University to work and learn and stuff. One of them is a member of the church, her name is Biera, and the other two, Jorge and Maria, aren't, but they're being taught. They had to have been the nicest people I have ever met, it was so much fun talking with them and at the end of the meeting we were able to go around and share our favorite scriptures from the Book of Mormon. They all have their own Spanish Copy of it. Anyway, they were way cool and will most likely be baptized once they get home to Paraguay in a
few months. Jorge wanted me to ask if you had been to the Avenue(but in Spanish) de Sacrmiento in Asuncion Andrew, I guess that's where he lives maybe? Anyway, it was great.
We exchanged back the next day. We were able to find some new investigator's this week, which is really awesome, and they all seem pretty promising which is exciting. James Tracke is still on date for baptism on the 28th which is really exciting and we have a few others who got pushed back until March. The work out here is great, hard at times but as long as we rely on the Savior he will make our burdens light and help us along the way. I've truly learned that as we humble ourselves and accept the Lord's will in ourlives we will find more joy and happiness. He will help us lose our selfish desires and have more love in helping our brothers and sisters.
I learned a powerful concept in Zone Conference, that I have probably heard in the past but haven't internalized. It is that if we pray and ask for things to benefit ourselves, the Lord often times will grant us our desires, but when we ask for things to bless us with so that we may help and serves others, the blessings come more numerously and abundantly. For example: In the mission we do a lot of studying of the sciptures in the morning. I have experienced for myself that when I begin my study and ask for knowledge and understanding of the scriptures so that through that knowledge I can bless the lives of my investigator's, the Lord as much more fully opened my mind to what I am studying as opposed to when I just ask for knowledge. I can be applied to all aspects of life and I know that as we apply this principle in our own lives that we will be blessed more fully and will be able to bless the lives of those around us.
I love you all and hope you have a great week!

Its Raining in Rapid City!

Oh ya, raining not snowing!! I'm so excited, I'm tired of the snow. But it was neat 2 weeks ago or so, I saw a 'movie snowflake' that was perfectly shaped. From what I hear, that happens only when its really cold, which is probably why I didn't see any in Utah. Maybe, I don't know, but it was cool nonetheless.

Anyway, its been a good week. The rodeo has been in town and some of the Elders rode the mechanical bull, it was pretty funny. I didn't ride, since it isn't exactly allowed...but I didn't mind them doing it since the man running the bull was LDS and he was talking about the church and the importance of missionaries when an Elder would be on the bull, so it gave some good publicity for us.

It was a kinda slow week for lessons, but we did get to see some people we haven't seen for a while which is always good. We got a new investigator named Ken Brown, an African American guy, who was a media referral for a free bible. We delivered it to him and had a really fun discussion with him on scriptures in the Bible. We didn't bash which was good, He has a pretty open mind, but wants to make sure he doesn't get led astray. He'll probably be at church next week with his son, which is exciting. He's a really good guy and loves his family, which is always a plus.

The missionaries in Rapid City got together on Saturday and we "blitz'd" the sister missionaries area to help them get investigators. It was fun tracting with a different Elder and we had a lot of success, which is really exciting. We tracted into an Atheist woman, who was kinda bipolar in her religious beliefs. It was sad, she kep saying how one part of her wishes she could see her husband and kids and pets after she dies, but the other half says theres no God...and she wouldn't let us teach her otherwise. Just kinda sad.

Anyway, other than that things have been good. One of the AP's (assistant to the president) is staying in our apartment for the week. He goes home on Friday, Its really fun being around him because he's an amazing missionary and disciple of Christ. His name is Elder Johanssen and he's from Florida. What a good guy.

Well other than that, thanks everyone for the letters, and I hope I can get a mail key soon so I can get the letters that people sent to the sheridan lake address. I hope everyone is still reading the Book of Mormon, it is an amazing book and I grow to love it more every day. I know this Church is true. Yesterday at church we talked about apostasy/apostates and the importance of following the current leadership of the church today. I know President Monson is a prophet of God and that the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles are inspired men and as we listen to their council we will be able to succeed through the trials of life. I love you all and hope you have a great week!
